” I daily walks a very long distance to reach my school , and when arriving I found myself full of dust and dirt ” .
This is what the ten years-old  Sameh said who is obliged to walk almost 2 Km back and forth  every day to reach his school . Sameh questions , ” When the school nearby my house will be built to get rid of all this torture ?” , he adds too ,” I felt happy when they started building a school close to where I live , but the construction works has stopped , and when we asked our teacher about the reason behind the halt , he said ,” construction works have stooped due to tightening the siege on the Gaza Strip ” .
Sameh is one of hundreds at the Strip who find themselves obliged to walk long distances as a result of lack of schools , as those students were waiting on the hope of building a new school , but the siege case got worse because of shutting down crossings ,nocking tunnels down, and denying access of building materials that caused the construction works of many schools to be in a stand still situation .
Eyed , a Gazan teacher , says ,” Students who walk long distances to reach school arrive tired and get busy with washing their heads and hands and drinking water instead of paying attention to what said in the class . Also in winter  they catch cold whereas all this contributes to low academic achievement of students “.
Poverty adds fuel to the fire since Palestinian families can’t afford providing a daily transportation means to their children , not to mention the lack of fuel to run transportation vehicles .Jamal Abed Al Bari , General Director of Building Directorate of MOEHE ,adds that ,” there is a breakdown in building the school of Maskat at Al Karara area , Maskat school at Al Nusairat  , Mahfouz Al Nahnah school at West Gaza , Suleiman Al Agha school at Khan younis and Ghazy Al Shawa at Bet –Hanoon . Abed Al Bari pointed out that there are virtual obstacles in completing schools under construction .
Dr. Ali Khalefa , General Director of Planning Directorate , confirmed that 75% of schools work under two-shift system , and that there is a great class density ,plus that in the coming years the Ministry of Education ‘s need for schools estimated to be 139 .
MOEHE called previously for Associations of human rights ,the international community and donors to give a hand to people of Gaza , and to open the commercial crossings for the purpose of completing schools under construction . In this respect , MOEHE clarified that international treaties secure human’s right in education and in having a proper educational  environment .

الحصار على غزة  أوقف بناء مدرسته التي يحلم بها
 
“سامح” يصاب بالإعياء والإرهاق الشديد يومياً  نتيجة المسافة التي يقطعها للوصول إلى المدرسة

“أنا متعب, أمشي مسافة كبيرة جداً يوميا حتى أصل لمدرستي كل يوم, أصل للمدرسة وملابسي كلها غبار وأوساخ نتيجة المشي الكثير”.
هذا ما يقوله الطفل سامح ابن  الصف الخامس الأساسي من وسط قطاع غزة  الذي يضطر للسير مسافة تقدر ب2 كيلو متر يومياً حتى يصل إلى مدرسته ذهابا وإيابا.
ويتساءل سامح والحسرة تبدو على وجنتيه : متى يتم بناء المدرسة القريبة من بيتي حتى ارتاح؟! كل يوم تعب, ويضيف: أنا فرحت عندما بدأوا ببناء مدرسة قريبة من بيتنا, وقلت إن هذا العام سوف أتعلم فيها, لكن المدرسة وقفت, ولا يوجد فيها عمال ولا أحد يبني فيها, وعندما سألنا الأستاذ عن المدرسة التي سيتم اقامتها في حارتنا, قال لنا:  إن بناء المدرسة توقف بسبب تشديد الحصار على غزة.
وسامح واحد من مئات الطلبة في قطاع غزة الذين يضطرون للسير مسافات طويلة نتيجة نقص المدارس,وكان عندهم أمل بأن تنتهي هذه المشكلة ببناء مدارس جديدة, لكن تشديد الحصار على غزة وإغلاق الإنفاق ومنع إدخال مواد البناء أعاق بناء المدارس بل انه ساهم في وقف بناء عدة مدارس بالرغم من بدء العمل فيها.
المدرس إياد من مدينة غزة يقول: الطالب الذي  يسير مسافات طويلة ويأتي للمدرسة يصل مرهق ومتعب , وينشغل في غسل وجهه ويديه وشرب الماء في فصل الصيف ولا ينتبه لدروسه وفي فصل الشتاء يصاب بالبرد والإعياء أيضا, ويضيف: الطفل لا يكون له أي نشاط في الفصل ومستواه التعليمي ينخفض عن أقرانه .
وبسبب الفقر عند الأسر الفلسطينية فالأهل يجدون صعوبة في توفير مواصلات لأبنائهم ناهيك عن عدم توفر السولار للتشغيل وسائل النقل والمواصلات أيضا بسبب إغلاق المعابر والأنفاق.
هناك بالفعل توقف لبناء مدارس هذا ما يقوله جمال عبد الباري مسؤول أبنية المدارس في وزارة تعليم غزة الذي أضاف: هناك توقف مدرسة مسقط في منطقة القرارة , ومدرسة مسقط في الوسطى, وهناك توقف لمدرسة محفوظ النحناح غرب مدينة غزة, ومدرسة سليمان الأغا في خانيونس , وتوقف استكمال مدرسة غازي الشوا في بيت حانون.
وأوضح عبد الباري أنه تواجهنا صعوبات حقيقية في استكمال بناء المدارس نتيجة عدم إدخال مواد البناء مثل الحديد والاسمنت ومستلزمات المدارس.
د. علي خليفة مسؤول التخطيط بوزارة التعليم أكد أن هناك 75 % من المدارس تعمل في نظام الفترتين في اليوم, وأن هناك كثافة صفية في الصفوف, كما أن احتياجات الوزارة من بناء المدارس الجديدة خلال السنوات الخمس المقبلة يقدر 139 مدرسة., هناك مدارس بنيت وتم الانجاز في هذا المجال , كما تم البدء في مدارس جديدة لكن الحصار أعاق استكمال العمل فيها..
وقد ناشدت وزارة التعليم بغزة في وقت سابق منظمات حقوق الإنسان والمجتمع الدولي والجهات المانحة بأهمية مساعدة السكان في غزة وفتح المعابر التجارية وإنهاء الحصار حتى يتم استكمال بناء المدارس التي توقفت موضحة أن المواثيق الدولية تكفل حق الإنسان في التعليم ضمن بيئة تعليمية وجو تعليمي مناسب.
